Soundproofing

You have figured out the ideal space for your studio. You want to get started as soon as possible to build your dream. You have worked for a long time on your plan based on your needs and desires and your workflow.

What about the area around or near your space? Neighbors?

You want to be able to create. You need focus and peace and quiet. Nature is not considerate of your peace and quiet. Rain, thunderstorms, dogs barking, etc. Civilization encroaches with lawnmowers, leaf blowers, muscle cars, and hot-rod motorcycles, - not mention garbage and delivery trucks.

You need at least enough soundproofing to prevent these noise sources from interrupting the creative process.

You must consider what the sound of your rock band may be doing to your neighbors. It is also important to consider that the criminal element, who may be tipped off to the location of your valuables – mics, equipment, speakers, etc.

It is important to keep it quiet both ways. Do NOT overlook the importance of adequate soundproofing.

A single partition, such as a 2 x 6 wall with heavy mass on both sides can approach STC55. But that does little for rock drums or a full band, especially at night where codes dictate a maximum of 40 dB at the curb or property border. Yet, for your peace, it says nothing about leaf blowers or trucks next to your property, and much less for a thunderstorm (or low flying aircraft).

These things must be well thought out in advance.

Building a correctly isolated (soundproof) room for your work is essential. This is not easy, especially with all the misinformation online.

First, you need access to testing data, not opinions. Then you will have to find the system that gives you what you need. – This will be a subjective solution to your exact needs (location, type of music/production, etc.).

One size (system type) does not fit all.

For example: Look at the difference in the spectrum and levels of these sound sources –
